Linkages of Corporate Priorities with the National Development Plan

 

As delineated in the NEDA Medium Term Plan, INFRASTRUCTURE DEVELOPMENT is one of the government's priorities and also among the strategic programs of the current administration. It is within such context that the PTA, as the implementing arm of the Department of Tourism (DOT), hopes to achieve its corporate objective of providing the necessary infrastructure support to sustain and catalyze more participation from local government units and the private sector in tourism activities. The program aims to undertake optimum physical underpinnings in areas with the most significant tourism potential with due regard for social, cultural and environmental considerations. To be implemented in identified areas are the systematic development of tourism estates, implementation of projects for the preservation of cultural and historical heritage, conservation and enhancement of eco-tourism sites and upgrading of PTA managed / operated tourist facilities.

  • Sustained Infrastructure Development

 

The PTA's active stance in the construction, maintenance and improvement of tourism infrastructure would undoubtedly encourage the private sector to venture in tourism-oriented projects. To further sustain growth, the PTA gives utmost emphasis on the conservation of ecological balance and preservation / protection of the natural environment in all its developmental undertakings. Also, a continuous upgrading and diversification of infrastructure development plan are being undertaken to respond to changing world market demands / global competition and increasing domestic tourist movement.

 

  • Public Order and Safety

 

The PTA has fairly achieved the promotion of peace and order in its projects' environs through a combination of strict enforcement of government laws/regulations and conscious cultivation of harmonious relationship with the communities within and surrounding its projects. As much as practicable, before any project will be implemented, the community is made aware of the economic benefits that will be derived from tourism and encourages community participation.

Likewise, PTA concerns itself on environmental protection and ecological conservation , a measure to protect tourists and the general public from health hazards

 

  • Reforming Administrative Governance

 

The PTA continually reviews its public service oriented activities and facilities with the over-all objective of attaining both cost efficiency and effective delivery of services to the public. It has finalized its proposed reengineered organizational set-up which aims to cut on expenses and improve organizational productivity.

The PTA has expanded the use of information technology to enhance productivity.

To improve travel tax collections for the convenience of airline travel tax payers, it has successfully worked out with airline companies in 1996 the adoption of an automated system of ticketing, the Bank Settlement Plan, which resulted in a faster and more accurate collection and remittance method.
